Patrick Kerry b. 1991 Sussex, UK

I am a material led artist, builder and writer. I work with local, often found and foraged materials. Plant Fibres from abundant local growth, or self-grown plants and bought fibres from local willow growers. Wood from storm-blown trees, coppiced and sustainably harvested wood or UK grown timber from local sawmills. Clays sensitively gathered from the local landscape, or saved from landfill from building projects.

We are on a mixture of heavy clays, sandstone and chalk where I live, in Sussex. Each giving differing energies and feelings. The varying materials offer different colour and textures. Mixing materials creates magic, almost as wonderful as the Sussex landscape itself. The trees & the land.

I aim to tell a story within my work, whether physical pieces or written word. Stories of place, stories of journey, stories of feeling within nature.

I keep an open journal of kind on Instagram (@PatrickOfSussex) which helps me to connect to community, the internet isn’t a replacement but a tool to be used to connect. I write longer form essays on varying topics, some of which is shared here. I aim to publish my words in print in the near future.
